Description

Hondo Public Library and Hondo Parks and Recreation Department are replacing the Library’s previous “Zombie Run” with this culturally relevant event to raise funds for the Hondo Police Department’s “Blue Santa” program that provides toys to underprivileged children at Christmas.

The physical run will occur at dusk (approximately 7 pm) on Saturday, October 16th, beginning at the Loading Dock in Hondo, travelling down 18th street to Avenue E, turning north on E to 15th street and heading east to Avenue D. At Avenue D, runners will turn north and travel up through the Cemetery on the marked route and back down the route to the start.

Prior to the race beginning at 5 p.m., face painting will be available and people can view the community altars located inside the Community Center just down the street from the Loading Dock. Mariachis will perform toward the end of the race and hot chocolate and Pan de Muerto will be served in the Community Center.

Registration must be completed by October 1st to receive a t-shirt. Participants may complete a 5K between October 1st and October 16th  and record their times, if they will be unable to physically attend the October 16th event.
