There is plenty of parking but note we will close the entrance to Johnson HS from FM 967 at 7:30 AM so we can complete setup. If you arrive after 7:30, you will need to enter from Carpenter Hill Elementary's parking lot cut through. If you arrive after 7:55, you may be asked to wait until all participants have passed that point to ensure complete safety for all!

About

We are excited to hold the SECOND annual Hays CISD Unified Champions 5k and 1K on April 6, 2024!  The Unified Champions 5k and 1k are the first intentionally inclusive race put on in Hays County.   All proceeds from this race will go toward the implementation of the Unified Champion Schools (UCS) programs on campuses all across Hays CISD!

AINSLEY'S ANGELS - we are thrilled to work with this organization. There are two ways participants can be part of this unique and exciting experience. For friends who "Roll with the Wind" in life and endurance events (that is, any person who needs assistance to be able to complete the course), please sign up as an Ainsley's Angels Rider.  OR, if you are a running athlete who would like to have the honor of running with our Athlete-Riders in life and in endurance events as an Ainsley's Angels Runner, sign up for the 5K division, then answer the Ainsley's Angels questions during your registration process. Registration for this special division and opportunity is open until March 24. At that time, Ainsley's Angels will begin matching up Riders with Runners and will reach out to each of you with additional details

What is the Unified Champion Schools (UCS) program?  The Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools program is aimed at promoting social inclusion through intentionally planned and implemented activities affecting systems-wide change. With sports as the foundation, the three-component model offers a unique combination of effective activities that equip young people with tools and training to create sports, classroom and school climates of acceptance. These are school climates where students with disabilities feel welcome and are routinely included in, and feel a part of, all activities, opportunities and functions.

This is accomplished by implementing inclusive sports, inclusive youth leadership opportunities, and whole school engagement. The program is designed to be woven into the fabric of the school, enhancing current efforts and providing rich opportunities that lead to meaningful change in creating a socially inclusive school that supports and engages all learners.

Huddle Award!

Penguins huddle together to shield each other against cold, windy, and harsh conditions.  This is similar to the mission of Unified Champion Schools, we are building a huddle of students within the school community where students with and without disabilities actively shield each other from bullying and negativity.  By huddling, we are creating a school culture of acceptance where students feel a sense of belonging and increased self-worth.

Bring your team to this For the Love of Go race and check in together for the Huddle Award! No need to register together or name your team when you register for the race. Just bring all your peeps to the race, scan the QR code near the starting line to check in each team member. Once the race starts, the team with the most check ins WINS fantastic prizes and bragging rights! So, get it together, and come HUDDLE!
