Run In Texas has one goal: to create great running events in the coolest places in Texas.
The company was created by Bill and Karen Gardner, both avid runners with a passion for memorable races.  Bill is an accomplished ultramarathon runner, including a sub-24-hour finish at the Western States 100. Karen has completed about two dozen marathons and 50k trail runs. Both have run races in amazing places, over winding wooded trails, up and down mountains, through waist-deep water, and in Fairbanks, Alaska where temperatures often approached 50 below.
In fact, the two ran the Santa Claus Half-Marathon in North Pole, Alaska on the morning of their wedding in August 1997. Maybe that’s where their love of a good run followed by a good party began.
In 2002 , Bill along with the San Antonio Road Runners started a race that was the kind of event he would want as a runner: a windy course through scenic  woods on dirt trails, followed by a fajita cookout, good beer and music. That’s how the Prickly Pear 10 Mile and 50k Trail Runs started. Today, Bill continues to volunteer as race director for the Prickly Pear, a springtime tradition in San Antonio that draws more than 500 runners (check it out at www.pp1050.com).
The Gardners keep the same approach with Run In Texas events:  take runners somewhere off the beaten path and make every step of the journey rewarding.
